Black Rock City and the Airport are moving about 1 mile to the northeast from the location we've used since 2000. The Airport will be at the same position relative to the rest of Black Rock City, but GPS coordinates are not known, and will not be known until August 21 or shortly after.
2006 Airport Layout Plan
Please note that this is plan, not a map. Reality may differ due to surface conditions, winds, BLM restrictions, or our mood during setup. The main difference in the plan from previous years is that we hope to place the runway on the near side of the roads, rather than the far side, so you won't have to taxi across a badly rutted road to get to the tiedown area. Also please note that this plan is oriented with true north to the top of the page. The runway, as always, will run southwest to northeast, but the runway numbers may change slightly depending on exactly where we put it.

BYOT, Bring Your Own Tiedowns
Bring rope and anchors. Get real rope, not clothesline. Imagine having to hitchhike home because your flimsy old rope broke and your plane flipped over. For anchors use a commercial product such as FlyTies, or rebar stakes. Get 1/2 inch diameter rebar, 2-feet long, 2-3 pieces for each wing, and 1-2 pieces for the tail. Screw-in anchors DO NOT work well in the playa.
We do have plenty of sledge hammers for installing, and vice grips for pulling. Pull your rebar and take it with you. Do NOT leave bent, flimsy, long, or otherwise useless rebar for us to throw away. We will gladly take donations of really good rope.
The Airport supplies the following items for general use; baggage wagons (keep at Airport), a ladder, sledge hammers, rebar pullers (i.e. pliers)
